The last sound
Every night Bulbatt collected the little noises people left behind: a cup touching a counter, laughter around a corner, shoes scuffing the cobblestones. He knew this market by ear.
Tonight, it went quiet too early.

Every night Bulbatt collected the little noises people left behind: a cup touching a counter, laughter around a corner, shoes scuffing the cobblestones. He knew this market by ear.
Tonight, it went quiet too early.

From his favorite roof, he spotted one lantern still swinging above the empty street. It looked like a tiny sun that had forgotten how to shine.
Bulbatt flew closer.

His wing brushed the paper. The lantern flickered once, twice, then warmed the whole street. Bulbatt blinked at it with both enormous eyes.

One stall opened. Then another. Someone put the kettle back on. Bulbatt zipped between the roofs, and the little sounds came back, each one louder than the last.
He had his favorite song again.

By morning, everybody knew the funny bat with giant eyes. He hadn't asked to be the market's keeper. He was just happy to hear it alive.
A very good night, according to Bulbatt.
Tap the lanterns and help Bulbatt light up the street. Every small glow counts.
Bulbatt is keeping an eye on it. Both eyes, actually.
